Pay Attention to What Has Heart and Meaning: A Sacred Pillar of Midlife Self-Discovery

April 18, 2025

Pay attention to what has heart and meaning. These words have become my North Star through the shifting landscapes of midlife transformation. As we move through these powerful life seasons, this soul-guided question anchors us. It’s more than just a reflection—it’s a call to return to your core, to the quiet voice of self-discovery that already knows the way.

This sacred inquiry has nothing to do with society’s definition of success. It’s not about accolades or productivity. It’s about honoring your sacred feminine, reclaiming your inner wisdom, and aligning with what brings genuine emotional clarity.

What It Really Means to Pay Attention to What Has Heart and Meaning

At first, I thought paying attention meant reading cues, sensing energy, and noticing what wasn’t being said. While those things matter, paying attention to what has heart and meaning asks something deeper:

What stirs your soul? What brings you peace, fire, resonance?

This is about presence. It’s about evaluating choices not from fear or obligation, but from a place of truth. Does this action honor your life purpose? Does it nourish your spirit? If the answer is yes, you're aligned. If not—pause.

From Self-Betrayal to Soul Alignment

Asking this sacred question saved me from cycles of self-abandonment. When I paused to ask, “Am I paying attention to what has heart and meaning?”—I began to hear my soul whisper back.

Little by little, I broke habits rooted in fear, performance, and approval-seeking. I began to lead with intuition, and make decisions that honored both my emotional clarity and my future. Alignment replaced anxiety. Wholeness replaced hustle.

A Poem That Changed Everything

Years ago, a speaker at a fitness conference shared this poem. It stopped me in my tracks:

They said to build a better world. I said I would, but how? The world is such a cold, dark place and complicated now. They said so clearly that I knew it to be true— Oh yes, you can, my beautiful girl. Just build a better you.

I’ve shared this with friends, clients, and family ever since. It’s a reminder that healing the world starts at home—by paying attention to what has heart and meaning, and choosing from that sacred place.

Your Soul Always Knows What Has Heart and Meaning

When you listen to your soul, your guidance grows louder. That flicker becomes a flame. Whether it’s reconnecting with your creativity, walking in nature, or watching your child play—if it stirs something deep within you, that’s your map.

Let it guide you toward more aliveness.

4-Step Soul Practice: Pay Attention to What Has Heart and Meaning

  1. Pause—Take space. Get quiet. Breathe.
  2. Ask—Am I paying attention to what has heart and meaning?
  3. Check—Am I betraying myself by choosing this?
  4. Act—Choose what sets your soul on fire, even if it’s scary.

This is your sacred power. This is the practice of becoming.
