Show Up for Her: The Journey to Self-Compassion and Inner Healing

April 18, 2025

Show Up for Her: A Midlife Call to Self-Compassion, Divine Feminine Power, and Inner Healing

As we navigate the sacred season of midlife transformation, many of us feel unmoored. We’ve spent decades showing up for others—family, career, community—but often neglect to show up for her: our inner self, the girl we once were, and the woman we are becoming.

For years, I felt like I was drifting, unclear on who I was or what I truly needed. It wasn't until I began asking, “Am I showing up for her?” that I found clarity. This question became the beginning of my self-compassion journey.

What It Means to Show Up for Her

Her is the part of you that has always been there—the 6-year-old with the wild imagination, the 26-year-old with quiet dreams, the 45-year-old overwhelmed by change. She is your inner child, your soul self, your sacred knowing.

To show up for her is to stop outsourcing love and start cultivating a deep connection with your divine feminine truth.

It’s not about grand gestures. It’s about small, sacred acts of presence:

  • Listening.
  • Soothing.
  • Forgiving.
  • Mothering yourself.

A Self-Compassion Practice to Reconnect

At a workshop, I learned a physical self-compassion practice that shifted everything:

  • Place your right hand under your arm near your heart.
  • Wrap your left arm around your bicep.
  • Tuck your chin down.
  • Breathe.
  • Whisper: “I got you, girl.”

This simple act invites softness. It’s how we begin to love ourselves—or at least love her, the version of us who needs comfort.

Why Self-Compassion Must Come First

Loving ourselves can feel hard. But loving the younger versions of us? That feels possible.

It’s easier to say, “I love her”—the 15-year-old who was scared, the 38-year-old who was trying her best. And as we do that, our capacity for inner healing and personal growth expands.

She’s Asking for Something—Are You Listening?

Ask yourself:

What does she need today?
  • A bath?
  • A boundary?
  • A nap?
  • A dance party?
  • A release of shame?

You’ll know. Your body knows. Your soul knows.

When you respond, you’re not just healing the past—you’re laying a sacred foundation for the woman you’re still becoming.

This Is Divine Feminine Work

To show up for her is to step fully into your divine feminine power. It’s about reclaiming softness, honoring cycles, and leading with intuition.

It’s about choosing:

  • Truth over performance
  • Compassion over criticism
  • Rest over hustle

Because when we tend to her, we rise.
